When is change real?

Real Change: How to implement L&D's sinister plot?

By Tricia Emerson and Mary Stewart

What is MLearning? What impact it will have?

Given that productivity is the focus these days, people also have less time for learning, especially when many people are trying to squeeze more work done within the same length of time.

The number of smart phones and tablets sold in the world indicates a strong possibility for MLearning to take place. MLearning is convenient, accessible and user-friendly. These 3 traits  are highly valued by today's generation.

However, before we jump onto the MLearning bandwagon, are we certain that the information that we want to disseminate have already been configured into bite-sized chunks to encourage ease of consumption? Mind you, reading powerpoint slide decks on smart phones and tablets are certainly not MLearning.

I agree wholeheartedly that while we work on the form of the content, we should not simply wait for technology to mature as technology is never stagnant. Instead, we should go for low hanging fruits, and achieve success by building capability.

Mary offered 7 steps to help us get started

1. Start slowly but start
2. Identify a pilot program
3. Be mindful of the platform used and its impact on design
4. Build capability
5. Engage IT team from the beginning
6. Set targets and monitor
7. Have fun

The key questions I was pondering over after the class were "where are we now?", "What proportion of our officers will take to MLearning?", How will such MLearning classes be funded? Do we have in-house capability to design programs that leverage on MLearning?

I wonder....
